Using Twitter & the Bible from your phone… in church?

May 4th, 2009

apple-iphone-in-hand-thumbjpgAfter seeing this article on Time.com, some discussions started breaking out here and there. I saw someone tweet about this and said that they don’t believe people should use Twitter in church. Others have even said that using the Bible apps to read the Bible in church instead of using paper Bibles is somehow wrong.

The interesting thought, is why would we be “distracted” from the fact that someone in our row would be reading the Bible from their phone instead of a hardcopy of the Good Book? Or the fact that a worship leader or teacher / speaker would be reading from their phone? Should it matter if we speak these words of life from a screen or from a page?

On the Twitter topic, I actually enjoy reading some of the friends I follow on Twitter while they are at church. Some great insights can be shared in real time. Personally, I do tend to use my iPhone app to read the Bible on and off stage. However, I don’t tweet very often during service times. But, I have & will when my pastor brings a point that I want the world to see/ hear.

This could be some good and fun convo if you all will help. SO, what do you all think?

I’m curious. Talk to me

February 4th, 2009

I’ve had some fun convo with some of you over the past couple of weeks about this – With all the different mediums for networking / communication I started out this year with a little test. So far this is how the first month of 2009 has worked out… Best ways to get up w/ me OR vise versa.

5th most popular- Phone Call

4th most popular- Email

3rd most popular-Facebook

2nd most popular- Twitter

1st most popular- Text

Interestingly enough, iChat would be 6th on the list… and MySpace is nowhere to be found. Not sure I’ve even checked mine this year.

What’s your top 3 (how can people best get up w/ you)?

Great “follows” on Twitter

October 31st, 2008

Since using Twitter from early this year, I have found a few people that are must follows. There are plenty of interesting and entertaining people to follow on Twitter, but here’s just a few great ones (in my opinion). To be clear, these people post at least once or twice per day.

@MichaelHyatt (https://twitter.com/michaelhyatt) – CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishing. Great leadership and business insight.

@pwilson (https://twitter.com/pwilson) – Pastor of CrossPoint Community Church. Pete is an inspiring teacher, leader, and new friend.

@jasonbradford (https://twitter.com/jasonbradford) – Jason is a talented friend, interactive marketing, web  stud that shares lots of insight into music, marketing, and other tasty goodness.

@JeffHenderson (https://twitter.com/jeffhenderson) – Jeff is the campus Pastor for Buckhead Church in Atlanta. He shares his heart on leadership, people, father, and life. Great insight for other pastors and leaders.

@donmilleris (http://twitter.com/donmilleris) – author, teacher, fun guy. Shares some interesting stories and thoughts on life.

This is also a great staff / team tool if used wisely. Many churches, businesses, and even large companies are using twitter as another channel of information, communication, and marketing. (At last count, I believe there are a dozen of TPC staffers on Twitter. Other churches I know have 2 dozen or so…).

FOR THOSE THAT DON’T TWITTER. I attempt to answer this question at least once a week… “What is Twitter? Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?”
