Some new (ish) songs…

July 17th, 2008

Fairly often I get emails and messages from you all asking “what new (worship) songs are you digging on these days?” Well, here are a few new songs to the church rotation…

-Happy Day (Tim Hughes) but more of the Fee version.

-All Because Of Jesus (Fee)

-Might Fortress (Jarnagin/Neale) no shame in my game.

-Lift High (Kirkland/Fee) a really good simple song that people can dig into.

And more to maybe come… My Soul Sings (Stu G/Smith) and a couple new originals forthcoming.

Brooke Fraser- Albertine

I have to admit that this kind of music isn’t my norm, but it is GREAT nonetheless. We here in the states are just now hearing the goodness that is Brooke Fraser’s Albertine. It is a great piece of work. About a year ago I saw the video to track 1 “Shadowfeet”… I was diggin’ it, but couldn’t find any audio of it anywhere… until now. This girl is an amazing songwriter, and musician. One of the most angelic voices I have heard in quite sometime. Go get some of her music when you can, and you WILL be glad you did. You might have heard some of here other stuff.

Peep out the video below.

John Mayer- Live in Los Angeles

John Mayer’s new live cd (dvd also available) is another great project from the bluesy punk. He plays and sings his butt off on this thing. I haven’t made it all the way through both cds, but what I have heard so far is tasty goodness.

His acoustic version of “Free Fallin’” was a nice surprise. This will be a great addition to your playlists from top to bottom.

G-Unit released a new one as well… but I haven’t got around to that one. ;)

Enjoy.

More friends w/ mad skills

July 2nd, 2008

My friend Mark is a part of a great rock band from the ATL. They are going to be on The Tonight Show on July 29th. He’s a great songwriter and guitarist. He and I were a part of a mentoring group together for a few years. Mark and his wife Stephanie are great peeps. They lived here in Franklin for a while, but moved back down I-75.

Ron Roark is one of those guys that you want thinking and working for you. He has an amazing creative palet. Ron and I first met around the youth leadership at TPC. We’ve basically been friends ever since. He works HERE.

Brock is like no one else I know. He’s another guy from the mentoring group who I met at the beginning of my Among Thorns days. He has a rad ministry and travels everywhere. He can even make you disappear.

Nate is one of my young protégé. He is another crazy talented designer, as well as a musician / worship leader. Some of these guys look like him, and have the same last name. He is getting married to Callie in about 2 weeks! Find him HERE.

There are so many other people that I am blessed to call friends that I should give shout outs to, but those will have to wait.

My friends got mad skills PT3

June 30th, 2008

Several years back, I met 3 of the 4 that now make up this band. They were all 3 crazy talented then, and NOW… crazy whack funky talented.

Paramore’s latest release “Riot” is approaching freaking 1,000,000 / platinum status. It’s actually in the 900,000s at the present. I KNOW I KNOW… I talk Paramore a lot. AND I WILL! B/C they are great at what they do, and umm… I am proud of my homies.

A couple of other homies that are getting ready to hit your ears are Joel and Luke. I have known these guys and their family almost longer than anyone I know in Nashville.

Joel and Luke are two guys that come from a talented family. You are destined to hear more from these guys. Real artists making real music. Go grab their EP. It’s great.

Their sis is pretty cool as well.

I am very grateful to have the most talented and gifted friends. Some of you know of Josh Cassidy. He is an amazing all around artist… guitarist, songwriter, singer, painter, and one of the funniest guys I know. In honor of their release TODAY (USA), I saw Josh’s piece on these guys. I love it. BTW, Coldplay’s latest release might be my favorite of the band’s life so far.

Go HERE for more work from Josh Cassidy.

2008 Bonnaroo lineup (partial)

June 9th, 2008

Here are some notable performers at this year’s Bonnaroo music and arts festival…

Pearl Jam, Metallica(never seen them, so would probably be fun), Jack Johnson, Widespread Panic, Kanye West, Chris Rock, Robert Plant and Alison Krauss featuring T Bone Burnett, Phil Lesh & Friends, My Morning Jacket, The Raconteurs, Willie Nelson, Death Cab for Cutie, B.B. King, Sigur Rós(yes please!), Ben Folds(for about 15 mins, then I would be bored), O.A.R., M.I.A., Iron & Wine(for about 10 mins), Stephen Marley, Robert Randolph’s Revival, Rilo Kiley, The Disco Biscuits, Solomon Burke, Chali 2na of Jurassic 5, Abigail Washburn, Béla Fleck, Janeane Garofalo(if she is still funny), Jakob Dylan (why not), and Rogue Wave

I won’t be going, but I am always interested in seeing who is going to be there in the middle of no-where with a bunch of hippies and crazy people. (please take no offense if you are going or have gone in the past… I’m just not that crazy… so maybe I’m getting old?)

In bold are those that I would be interested in.
