Leadership points from Drive 08
March 4th, 2009
From the DRIVE conference 08. This was a great trip w/ leadership thoughts, insights, ideas, and challenges.
I can’t recall content resonating with me as much as Andy Stanley’s from DRIVE 08. I felt like it challenged me on several levels. Also, it was affirming of my calling, gifts, talents, and passions. I have so much to learn. Which is a big reason I am constantly reading leadership principles, books, articles, following wise people on Twitter, as well as hanging w/ some amazing people. The combination of insight from guys like Buckingham, Rath, and Covey to the wisdom, truth, and passion in scriptures is a POWERFUL thing.
Here are just a few takeaways from Andy’s sessions last year (most of which can be found in podcast form on iTunes. Just search Andy Stanley Leadership).
-”to reach people that no one else is reaching, we must do things no one else is doing” – Craig Groeschel
-become preoccupied with who you aren’t reaching as opposed to those you are trying to keep.
-”the next generation products (what’s next) almost never comes from the previous generation” – Al Reis
-either fight the next generation or fund it.
-be a student, not a critic
-we choose what we put in the gap of the reality of what employees (workers) actually do and what we assume they do. It’s either trust or suspicion.
