I'm definitely all for uniting as the Kingdom of God and supporting Obama by praying for him and respecting him. Unity is based on Christ and on God's character. But I'm not about to jump on board with some of our President Elect's policies and ideas for the sake of "unity." It's a definite line and a delicate balance.

I think his presidency has the potential to heal across party lines (although some people will probably insist on bitterness and division)...I hope and pray things that will be for the better of our nation will take place in the 4-8 years, and beyond.

Thanks for giving a place to conversation, Chad!

I hear ya Amy.

There might just be something at play bigger and louder than politics and opinion.

The fact that the US just voted in the first african american bi-racial president is more weighty than most of us white americans would want to stop and pause on.

I'm not trying to open up and go somewhere else. Just thinking out loud a bit for us all to think about...

Thanks again for the messages and comments.

I appreciate the sentiment but the time to unite was yesterday. Meaning, while a new president may change things, the hard work of agreeing to listen to people with different opinions than our own still is before us. A change in the ruling political party will not necessarily make this easier if we weren't inclined to do it before.

I've had a few of these kind of convos today. Leaves me thinking a little too much.

I guess that we can do our part to UNITE together as one as much as we can. OR not. If we are Kingdom minded, I believe that we will support the new president and his administration by praying and continuing to be a voice of hope by the way we treat other that are different than ourselves.

Fear is latching on to many. That happened before the election b/c of the state of the economy. God is bigger than this fear. This fear and distrust is not from Him, in my opinion.

Thanks for reading, and all the comments and emails.

Sorry, but I'm not comfortable "uniting" with someone I don't trust. I'm proud of our nation for signifying that we've made huge strides past racism. I can appreciate the historic nature of all this. I can even look forward to some of the positive changes that may come of Obama's presidency. But right now, to be perfectly honest, I'm pretty disillusioned with American politics as a whole. My main hope and interest is not in the government of this land, but in the way of the Kingdom of God. To that end, I'll be praying for our new leaders, our nation and our world as we know it.

I definitely agree that we need to pray for Obama. But, I don't really understand what you mean by unite? I mean, I am not going to unite under Nancy Pelosie, she runs this country too. I still think she is crazy. I won't start to agree with Obama's policies now that he is president.

Originally our country was set up so that the federal government got its power from the states, not, the other way around, like it seems to be now. The federal government is supposed to get its power from us. We do not live in a true democracy we live in a representative, so that being said, I believe that all the people bitching and screaming are an important part of this nations foundation. Lets unite as a country, but, lets do it under the constitution, something that neither of the two major parties ever really consult.
